Sa texture peut-être rubanée. On la trouve en nodules dans les kimberlites, mais elle forme surtout de grandes unités, issues de roches magmatiques basiques métamorphisées à grande profondeur sous très haute température et très forte pression. The rock name eclogite was first used by R. J. Haüy in 1822 for a “fancy rock” composed mainly of two minerals “diallage and garnet accompanied accidentally by kyanite, quartz, epidote, and lamellar amphibole.” Two zircon grains from low-Mg mantle eclogite sample Cat-11 have similar internal textures (Fig. 6a) where cores with oscillatory zoning are overgrown by weak, patchy-zoned rims. Classifying these zircon grains with our algorithm suggests that the weak, patchy zoning of both rims, coupled with their low Th/U values (0.05–0.06), is indicative of a metamorphic origin. The textures were generated during omphacite growth on the prograde path of eclogite development until metamorphic peak conditions.

Eclogites consist primarily of green pyroxene (omphacite) and red garnet (pyrope), with small amounts of various other stable minerals—e.g., rutile. They are formed when volcanic textures developed during incipient eclogitisation of metagabbro from the eclogite type-locality in the Koralpe–Saualpe area of the Europ ean Alps (Ha¨ uy, 1822).

Field observations in the Eclogite Zone show that kinematics in garnet mica schist, surrounding the eclogites, strongly indicate an extrusion wedge geometry, including top-N thrusting at the base and a top-S normal faulting with a sinistral shear component at the GeoLines 14 (2002) 103 Microstructure, EBSD-Measured Texture and Seismic Properties of Mantle Eclogite FRB 1300 from the Premier Mine, Kaapvaal Craton, South Africa Typical textures from eclogite breccias described by Angiboust et al. Eclogites consist primarily of green pyroxene (omphacite) and red garnet (pyrope), with small amounts of various other stable minerals—e.g., rutile. (c) Garnet partly replaced by orthopyroxene (Opx) and plagioclase. Eclogite ("ECK-lo-jite") is an extreme metamorphic rock formed by regional metamorphism of basalt under very high pressures and temperatures. This type of metamorphic rock is the name of highest-grade metamorphic facies. The Shuanghe coesite eclogite has experienced a prolonged metamorphic evolution based on the modifications of texture and mineral assemblage described above. It may be divided into three stages: peak UHP metamorphism (stage A), early retrogression to quartz eclogite (stage B) and late retrogression to condition of the plagioclase stability Une éclogite (terme défini par l'abbé Haüy en 1822 à partir du mot grec grec eklogê, choix, en référence à la sélection de minéraux qui constituent cette roche) [1] est une roche métamorphique qui s'est formée dans le faciès éclogitique, c'est-à-dire ayant subi les conditions de pression et température de ce champ. It is a major mineral component of eclogite along with pyrope garnet and also occurs in blueschist facies and UHP (ultrahigh-pressure) metamorphic rocks.
